I’ve learned from personal experience that food trends are never one – size – fits – all, which is exactly why I don’t care to label my own eating habits! My approach to nutrition is primarily focused on mindful eating and the qualitarian way.
For over 10 years, my life revolved around braces and oral health — I was an orthodontist!
But despite being a health professional, I did NOT live a healthy lifestyle. It wasn’t until working through a series of my own struggles that I found my calling, and made the switch to holistic health coaching.
PAST HEALTH CHALLENGES
I would love to say that I only had digestive problems and food sensitivities, but the truth is that I also had an eating disorder, panic attacks and depression for more than 10 years.
Once I learned what was best for my body, I also struggled keeping my new healthy habits!
It took time to develop an implementation system that worked, and has since changed the lives of other women too.
I’m a total health geek at heart! I love learning about how people can feel their absolute best. This was the reason I got into dentistry and orthodontics, and why the change to health coach ing came so naturally to me.
Prior to making my own health changes, I was like many women — the foods I ate, the way I exercised (or didn’t!), and the way I thought and talked to myself every day didn’t serve me. These habits worked against me, until I decided to change them for good.
On the outside, everything about my health seemed perfectly fine…
I was a successful orthodontist in my home country of Chile, living out my childhood dream of helping others through my dentistry and orthodontic practice. My life was going according to plan, except for one thing — I
didn’t feel 100% percent.
I fueled my body with processed foods, stayed up late every night, and avoided exercise because I was completely exhausted. I told myself that I wasn’t smart enough, pretty enough, or skinny enough — and believe it! Every day I resented my routine because I knew it wasn’t healthy, but I blamed my busy schedule for my inability to change it.
Little did I know how unsustainable this lifestyle really was, and how all of my “small” unhealthy habits were adding up in big ways….
I was ruched to the hospital for severe joint pain that left me bedridden, and migraines beyond anything I’d experienced before. My immune system was hardly working, and I was unable to care for my children or myself.
I couldn’t believe that after feeling healthy most of my life, it was all over in a matter of months!
To make matters worse, doctors couldn’t diagnose my “mysterious” symptoms. I was prescribed antidepressants and other treatments to help me tolerate the pain. At the time, I didn’t know that my pain was caused by a strong gluten and dairy sensitivity, and high levels of stress and inflammation in my body. This lifestyle wasn’t working, and I knew in my heart that there had to be a better way.
It was time to take my health into my own hands.
I decided to heal myself naturally. I used nutrition as my starting block by replacing my processed food habit with wholesome, nourishing meals. Focusing my energy on nutrition, just one piece of the big health puzzle, made all the difference. Soon, other areas of my health improved dramatically.
I finally experienced energy throughout the day, had enthusiasm for simple things, and a deep sense of wellbeing. My headaches went away, I no longer felt bloated, and my joint pain diminished … until it disappeared for good!
The best, part? I didn’t need to rely on painkillers and prescriptions any more. I could be happy and healthy —
Holistic health completely changed my life, and I knew it could transform the lives of others too. That is why I decided to enroll at the Institute of Integrative Health and become a Holistic Health Coach.
Which brings me here to you…
No more quick-fixes to be health problems, expensive treatments prescribed by the doctor, or body-shaming fitness plans. No more discouraging weight loss programs or feeling tired day-after-day. Health is SO much more than “diet” and “exercise.” It’s a balance of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Everyone can improve their health by simply changing their daily habits.
When I started my own journey to changing my habits, I struggledwith the large amount of information related to diets, nutrition labels, and all topics related to health and wellness. I got confused and lost many times, and I wasted a lot of time trying to find a way to break the bad habits, create good ones, and the most important thing — maintain them over time.
I wanted a foundation that would help me build my new healthy patterns and routines. I knew I needed to make them my new normal way of living, own them, and know them so well, until they became my new autopilot. I wanted to stop feeling like these new “healthy” actions were too difficult or impossible to follow.
That’s why, I committed myself to developing a system that allows me to keep moving forward in an easy, practical, actionable, and enjoyable way, plus help others to do the same.
